Weekly Report

The final week of August continued to be dominated by high pressure, which has unfortunately controlled our weather over the past couple of weeks. Despite initial forecasts offering a change towards the end of the week bright blue skies and air temperatures in excess of 20c continued through to Saturday.

Although these conditions as far from ideal there is always a chance for success, especially with many pools up and down the river full of fish, and this week was a memorable week for two anglers in particular.

A bright day on the river

Steven Pickering landed his maiden Thurso salmon on Monday morning from beat 10, the 8-pounder was hooked within his first few casts. Valerie Cheyne enjoyed her first visit to the river, landing her first ever salmon on the fly. The 6-pounder was from beat 9 during the hottest, brightest part of the day, proving that as long as there are fish there is always a chance despite how difficult overhead conditions may seem.

looking ahead the forecast is predicting periods of showers, brisk winds and cooler temperatures, only time will tell if this proves to be accurate.

Tight lines next week.
