This past week started strong, thanks to near perfect overheads and considerably cooler temperatures well over half the fish caught were taken on Monday and Tuesday. Unfortunately by midweek we experienced a short lived Indian summer of sorts, clear blue skies and temperatures into the late teens didn't help. Saturday seen a return to more favourable overheads.
Bobby Bryans got the week up and running on Monday with a fish from beat 3 and added another a few days later from beat 10, his fishing companion Paul Smith landed three. Charles Mylchreest's hard work was rewarded with three, the best a 13-pounder from beat 7. Francis Milner's annual trip from Canada to his native country was fruitful with three. Mel Campbell and Jean Louis Siboni both had a brace.
Neil and Phil Richmond, Chris Sutcliffe, Etienne Garin and Steve Rigby each picked up one fish. Final mention this week goes to Les Oliver, who after many years of trying to catch a salmon on the fly finally realised his dream with a 4-pounder from beat 4.
And just like that the final week of the season is here, one last chance to chase the king of fish on the banks of the Thurso in 2025.
Tight lines next week.
