It was a very warm week in the far north with air temperatures commonly above 20c and even exceeding 26c a few times. Combined with cloudless skies and light winds it was no real surprise to see catches suffer. Thankfully the heat brought some intense thunderstorms on Thursday evening dropping over 30mm of rain in under 5 hours, by midday on Friday the river peaked at 26 inches. While it was coloured it didn't take long to clear and fish were soon showing interest again by early afternoon.

Unsurprisingly, most were caught during the second half of the week. Keith Ogden and Chris Kelly had a brace of grilse each, Peter Hatherell had three. Geoff Baines and Stephen Horn had a solid week sharing six, best of which was 17lb for Geoff from Quarry pool on beat 4. Bumble Ogilvy-Wedderburn had a sea-liced grilse from the Rock pool on beat 9, Barry Griffin and Trevor Akinson adding to the final total for the week.

Thankfully the forecast for nest week looks a little cooler with daytime temperatures expected to be in the low to mid-teens, a relief after the past week. Loch More spent most of Friday and Saturday rising and is 3/4 full ensuring steady water well into July.
