We began the week with considerable optimism thanks to improved overheads and cooler air temperatures. However as the week progressed both resident and newly arrived fish proved challenging to catch. While various theories were discussed the general consensus was days of little or no wind made the fish very easily spooked.
Despite these challenges some notable were made. Laurent Regis from France enjoyed his first experience of the Thurso, successfully landing a grilse from beat 13. James Newton had one on the hitch from beat 9. David Stewart and John Drummond had one each on Friday from beats 10 and 9 . Stuart Thomas caught his first Atlantic salmon on the fly, a tide fresh 6-pounder from beat 2.
Looking ahead to next week the forecast indicates scattered showers and a cooler northerly breeze, this should help keep both air and water temperatures and a sensible level for both fish and angler.
Tight lines next week.
