The week began with settled weather albeit with cold nights and air temperatures as low as minus 5. While a few kelts were seen no springers have been spotted yet. It was encouraging to see anglers taking advantage of the favourable conditions earlier in the week.
Unfortunately storm Éowyn arrived on Friday afternoon bringing strong winds and heavy showers mixed with hail and sleet, this rendered Friday and Saturday a write off from an angling perspective. Thankfully Caithness avoided the brunt of the storm with maximum gusts in the 70mph range, there was no damage caused to the river's infrastructure.
Looking ahead we are expecting more low pressure systems moving through next week. These will likely bring further strong winds and colder temperatures with a chance of snow reminding us winter is far from over on the banks of the Thurso.
Tight lines next week.
