The wait for significant rainfall continues, at times it felt like it was going to happen with heavy thunderstorms all around us during the first half of the week that unfortunately didn't fall in the right place. As the week came to an end the humidity levels became almost unbearable. large numbers of salmon are now gathering in the estuary awaiting a rise in water levels.
Mrs Janey Lyons had a grilse on Monday morning form beat 8, Guy Newell also had a grilse from beat 8, Paul Barnard had an 8-pound salmon from Beat 4, and Lara Harcourt and Pete Marshall had one each from beat 2.
While early mornings and late evenings are some of the best times to go fishing at the moment it also offers a chance to see the numerous different types of wildlife the banks of the Thurso has to offer, from the more common sightings such as ospreys, oystercatchers, curlews, brown hare's, roe and red deer to name but a few. There is also the chance to see things less often seen such as sea eagles and a chance sighting of a 6 spotted Burnet moth.
Next week looks unsettled with periods of rain, fingers crossed it makes a difference.
Tight lines next week.
