The cold weather continued throughout the week with heavy snowfall and overnight temperatures as low as minus 9. Higher up the catchment at loch More and above saw particularly high accumulations of snow with over twelve inches. Inevitably milder weather arrived on Saturday with storm Bert bringing heavy rainfall and a quick thaw, this seen the river rising rapidly peaking at four feet on Sunday afternoon.
Most of the fish in the river finished spawning before the arrival of storm Bert with hens dropping back to pools to recover. Sadly for many of the males throughout the system many weeks of fighting for prime position on the redds takes its toll with dead ones in the shallows.
This weeks forecast looks milder and wetter during the first half of the week.
