Weekly Report

We experienced our first significant rise since late March thanks to torrential rain early on Sunday morning. The majority of the rain fell on the eastern side of the catchment with most of the rise originating from little river. While rises of this nature are often short-lived this rise was more than enough encouragement to pull new fish in from the sea. Although not all fish waiting at the estuary decided to run there was good numbers seen pushing up to beat 9, this has certainly rejuvenated the river after such a long dry spell.

Notable catches this week included Jock and Duncan Laird with a fish each from beat 2, Keith Ogden had a fresh 11-pounder from beat 4 and Steven Horn picked up one of 8-pound from beat 9.

While it was wonderful to see water in the river and fish running both anglers and ghillies were left somewhat perplexed at how quickly the fish seemed to switch off. What would be ideal now is a further rise in levels next week, and with a promising forecast and an already well soaked ground it wont take much to lift levels again.

Tight lines next week.
