The wait for the first springer of the season is at an end. On Saturday Hugo Ross landed a 10-pounder from beat 4 marking his fourth time catching the first fish of the season, a feat he last achieved in 2021.
Late on Saturday afternoon as he was about to finish for the day after fishing the Hoy pool Hugo decided to try one last cast at James Macdonald's stream. After a few casts he hooked into the springer which led him a merry dance well downstream in what he described as one of the best fights he has ever had from a salmon before finally managing to tame it and bring it safely to the net, after a quick photo it was released to carry on its journey. Well done Hugo.

While there have been a few questions recently regarding whether there are fish in the river we now have our answer, and with another unfortunately lost on Saturday morning we are optimistic that we will see a more caught.

It truly felt like spring this week, with Friday reaching a high of 17'c. The calls of curlews, oystercatchers and grouse echo around the river, a wonderful time of the year to be out fishing. However March can often throw some cold weather into the mix, and next week the forecast is predicting an icy blast from the north.
