Weekly Report

The last seven days on the Thurso has brought a mix of weather, from bitterly cold northerly winds and heavy showers to near flat calms and 18c. Thankfully the cooler, more autumnal weather prevailed for the majority of the week, which in turn has helped keep water temperatures consistently lower than they have since April. This has undoubtably had an effect on the fish, and in particular the male salmon that have become noticeably more aggressive.

James Robbins got the week up and running with a grilse from beat 3 on Monday, followed by a second on Wednesday from beat 10. Tim Morgan continued his success from the previous week adding a further two including an impressive 14-pounder from beat 8. Norman Taylor had a great week with four, while Ken Debney and Stuart Ingledew each picked up a brace.

Nigel Steele, who had just recently celebrated his 80th birthday landed an 8-pounder from beat 10 on Saturday, Rachael Wardall also had one from beat 10. John Campbell, Calum Cheape, Christian Hampel and Ed McLellan all adding a fish to the total.

We can only imagine the potential of the catches had we received some more consistent rainfall instead of the sporadic short-lived showers we have seen of late.  Looking ahead to next week it us to remain cold and unsettled to start, high pressure due to develop by midweek.

Tight lines next week.
