A sea liced springer

Weekly Report

The past six days saw a further improvement in catches in comparison to the previous week with 10 fish in the book. It was not always easy going, the weather throwing all sorts at our anglers with strong northerly winds and showers of hail and sleet dominating most of the week apart from Saturday when spring made a welcome return. The springers caught this week were definitely well-earned.

Big skies on Loch Beg.

It was encouraging to see the lower beats finally producing a few fish and there seems to be an increase of new fish within the system, especially in the upper beats.

We had a few new anglers to the river this week who had their first Thurso Salmon. Stuart Siddall had one at 8-pound from beat 8, Jim Coates, Charlie Campbell, Tim Sperrin, David Barrett with a brace, Steve Oldham and Colin Cooper all opening their Thurso Account. Iain Wilson and Andy Blundell rounded off the week's catches.

Good numbers of smolts can be seen gathering on their downward migration towards the sea and this will increase over the next few weeks.
Next week looks set to be dominated by northerly winds once again although predominantly dry for the most part.

Tight lines next week.
