After a pleasant few days following the opening winter took a grip on the banks of the river Thurso. The far north seen the heaviest snowfall, this along with a strong winds made snow drifts a big problem throughout Caithness. Access to the beats was all but impossible, but with large accumulations of ice and grue the river was essentially unfishable.
A quick thaw started on Friday which will leave us with high water levels for a few days, and with storms forecast throughout next week there is not much respite for our early season anglers.
Tight lines next week.
