Another week comes to an end and despite decent numbers of fresh fish entering the river on a daily basis they continue to prove difficult to catch, there were times however when they would suddenly wake up for short periods of time and show interest in a fly, predicting when this would happen was some what of guessing game so keeping the fly in the water and fishing hard when the overhead conditions were favourable was the best approach.
The first half of the week was dominated by high pressure leaving us with near flat calm conditions which left the flat pools near impossible to approach as the fish became easily spooked. Towards the end of the week the wind finally picked up and late on Friday and Saturday a low pressure system brought gale force winds and a few hours heavy rain which will hopefully cool he water down.
Looking at the catches this week some familiar names had their share of the catches, Colin Somerville taking 6 for his week, Kevin Reid had 3, Francis Sandison picked up a couple, Chris Makin, Stuart Nicolson, Vikki Jagger, Colin Lowson and Mark Parramore all taking a fish each. David Newell had his first Thurso salmon and the star of the week and the one of the biggest highlights of the season was 12 year-old Lucas catching his first ever salmon from the Cruives eye on beat 10, not being content with just catching one he added a further two taking his total to three. A huge well done from the River Thurso team.
Tight lines next week.
