Weekly Report

Another challenging week on the Thurso has come to an end. The forecast suggested a significant change by midweek, but unfortunately it didn't quite pan out as expected. We had 12mm of rain overnight on Wednesday resulting in a minor lift in levels. While it wasn't as warm as the previous two weeks we still experienced extended periods of blue skies and light winds.

We had a few more hook ups but ultimately only one fish was caught, Graham Forbes successfully landing a clean 7-pound fish from the Hay pool on beat 12.

Experienced Thurso anglers and ghillies understand the value of canal stretches throughout the system. These long, slow deep sections offer a safe haven for many salmon during periods of lower water. Given a good wind they can often produce results as Mr Forbes demonstrated with his catch from the slow deep water of beat 12. Additionally, these areas are less depended on higher water levels.
