It would be fair to say that overhead conditions throughout the past week were less than ideal for salmon fishing. Clear skies for the most part, combined with temperatures exceeding 20c left early mornings and late evenings the best opportunities for fishing. The catches reflected these challenging conditions and not the number of fish in the river. 

Callum Cheape landed the first of the week from beat 2 early on Tuesday morning, David Mercer repeated this also landing a fish early the following day also from beat 2. Peter Rogers had a great day on Wednesday landing three, largest was 8lb. Ken Debney landed a grilse on the hitch fly from beat 13. Finally on Saturday, Gordon Wilson caught his first Thurso salmon, and immediately followed it up with his second.

New fish are now arriving daily at the estuary, unfortunately high water temperatures earlier in the week left them reluctant to run in large numbers until Saturday when cooler weather from the North seen the arrival of fresh grilse on the lower beats. The forecast for the coming week is much cooler which will hopefully bring the fish back on the take.
