Weekly Report

This has certainly been one of the tougher spring weeks in recent seasons. With glorious blue skies and temperatures well above the seasonal average we could be forgiven for thinking Caithness was a tropical holiday resort and not the Highlands of Scotland.

Fishing late into the evening

Despite these less than helpful overhead conditions fish have continued to enter the system daily with running fish seen during early mornings and late evenings.

Johny Hudson had the first of the week from the Dale stream on beat 8 weighing 10 pounds, James Robbins had one of 9 pounds on Tuesday morning from lower Suilag on beat 3.

Mark Newton landed one late on Thursday evening from the Braal pool on beat 4 on a hitched micro sunray. Ross James landed his first Thurso salmon on Saturday morning from the Froth pool on beat 6.

The weather forecast is showing a change in the weather by midweek to something a little cooler and possibly wetter, hopefully this is accurate. It should not be to long before we see the first grilse of the season arrive.

Tight lines next week
