Weekly Report

Monday morning started with a risk of thunderstorms and torrential rain, and while this did materialise it was too short-lived to make any difference to the river levels. What it did provide was strong winds and good cloud cover which definitely helped with 10 fish caught.
As we moved into the middle of the week, bright overhead conditions slowed the fishing down, with only a handful of fish taken. Cooler weather returned towards the later part of the week with the fish showing signs of coming back on the take.

Alistair Lee got the week up and running with a 12lb fish from Beat 8, this was Alistair's first-ever Atlantic salmon. Laurent Baré had his first Thurso salmon. Peter Shaw had a great day on beat two, taking three fish. Richard Anderson-Bickley had a brace from beat 9. Alan Shearer made the trip across the Pentland firth from Orkney for a short visit and was rewarded with two.

Alex Parramore's 60-plus years of experience on the Thurso paid dividends with a 6lb fish from Beat 4.
Francis Sandison and Vikki Jagger had one each from Beat 3, Mark Parramore had  a fresh grilse from Beat 4 on the hitch, and Mark's two nephews Tom Thorpe and Lucas Parramore had one each. Martin Swann, Craig Ramsay and Colin Somerville all picked up a fish each. And last but not least, Mark Miller left it late, but he managed a lovely fresh fish on the hitch from Beat 2 on Saturday afternoon.

With so many fish in the river, all that is needed is decent overhead conditions and a little stealth when approaching pools. Next week looks unsettled and thankfully, a little cooler.

Tight lines next week.
