The weather here continues to be bright and hot feeling almost tropical at times despite our location in the far north. The only respite from the heat has been an ever present northerly breeze.
For our anglers conditions have proved challenging, with early mornings and late evenings providing the only realistic chance of a fish. Despite this we had one successful catch this week. On Friday evening just as the sun was setting Christopher Oughtred landed a reasonably fresh 12-pounder from Comlifoot on beat 4.
A number of our visiting anglers have taken the opportunity to explore the diverse trout fishing available throughout Caithness. From the small lochs of the flow country to larger waters such as Watten and Calder, even the river itself has seen numerous pound plus trout taken on dry flies.
Looking ahead there are indications of a change towards the end of next week. The high pressure that has dominated our weather for over a month is forecast to be replaced by low pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic, only time will tell if there will be any meaningful rainfall.
Tight lines next week.
