The settled mild spell of weather continued through to Friday with air temperatures reaching 15'c some days. The forecast was predicting a change in wind direction over the weekend, and by Saturday, this proved to be correct. Cold northerly winds replaced the milder south west direction enveloping Caithness in a sharp change. The contrast was quite stark and by Sunday morning air temperatures struggled above freezing with frequent showers of hail and snow leaving the higher ground white.
With many salmon redds clearly visible to the naked eye it would appear the fish are now well into the window of spawning activity, The general consensus between the ghillies out visually inspecting is that there is still a good head of fish in the pools waiting to move onto the redds once we see a lift in levels, it has been an unseasonably dry November to date.
