The week began with the river at 8" and warm following the intense heat in the days before but began to cool as a new front became dominant.
On Monday, Mark Newton landed two salmon and Alec Cuppage added a third to the book.
Tuesday saw a slight improvement with Nigel Olesen netting two from beat 7, John Graham two from beat 8 and Mr. Morgan one from beat 4.
Wednesday morning saw a dramatic change, so cold that ice formed on the rod rings of the early birds! Johnny Garland caught his first ever salmon on beat 7, John Goodman had one from beat 6 and the Newton party secured two at 10 and 6 lbs from beat 4, Michael Evans visited for one day and landed two grilse on beat 3.
Thursday brought strong winds and at last, cooler, overcast conditions. Johnny Garland had a cracking day with three to ten pounds from beat 5 whilst John Graham and John Goodman caught nine to 16 pounds on beat 4 and 10. Also, Damian Greenish brought two to the bank, as did the Newton party, with Tim Gregory, Graeme Jones and Simon Walters both adding a fish to the day's tally of 18.
The last two days of the week saw calm, sunny weather unconducive to good sport. Nevertheless, Adrian Brightly, Tim Morgan and John Goodman each caught one on Friday, whilst John Graham and Nigel Olesen both found two willing fish on their beats, 8 and 12 respectively.
Mark Newton and Rachel Wardell took a fish each from beat 2, Damian Greenish and Tim Morgan all found some success on a bright, calm Saturday with the heaviest being Damian's 13-pounder from beat 4, bringing the week's total to 44.
The forecast for next week suggests better conditions for fishing with cooler days, cloud cover, a good breeze and the promise of some rain to come. Here's hoping the more autumnal weather brings yet more fish on the take!
