After many weeks of promised rain  the wait for substantial rainfall finally came to end this week, initially from the lower tributaries of the Braehour and achnaclalchan burns, but as the week progressed little river and Loch More also began to rise.

By midweek countless numbers of fish started running but these seemed to be residents relocating to begin with with a handful of fresh fish, however as we moved towards the end of the week the numbers of new fish from the sea increased and with a final total of 52 it was comfortably our best week of the season.

Many of our anglers this week had multiple catches, Gerald Davidson, father and son team Bill and Will Thomson, John Brownlie and brothers Will and Duncan Laird, Rob Maundrell had the largest of the week, a 20-pounder from beat 11 on Saturday. One of our own ghillies James Barlow was also in on the action taking two from beat 3.

Jim Kay, Pete Daniels, Joe Gulius, Jock Campbell, Ali Webster and Pat Nicol all adding to the total.

It is great to see a good flush of fresh water running through the river once again, when the water settles down and clears after Saturday's rise the river will be in great order and all beats should start producing multiple catches. 

With loch More full once again we will have good fishing for the foreseeable future. Anyone looking for an opportunity to fish the Thurso we have a handful of rods left towards the end of July and into August.

We are particularly keen to provide opportunities for young people. During the period Monday 24th July to Saturday 26th August a limited number of rods will be made available at a greatly reduced rate . The only stipulations are :

.Participants must stay at the Ulbster Arms Hotel.

.Participants must be aged 30 or under

.Any tuition/ghillie assistance will be provided at cost.

.Open on a first come first served basis. This offer will close at midday on Sunday 23rd July.(subject to availability)
