The week began with bright sunshine and strong southerly wind which persisted all week. We also started to notice the days becoming cooler and the nights getting colder, so cooling the river which helped towards the end of the week.

Martin Glennie landed an 18lber from Jimmy Sutherlands on Beat 9 on Tuesday which was his first Thurso fish and went on to get a 6lb grilse on Beat 7 on Wednesday. Nick Patty got a 5lb grilse from Tulach on Beat 9 which was also his first Thurso fish.

Tim Morgan opened his account with a 12lb fish from Beat 2 and on Tuesday, when the water temperature dropped, he successfully brought 3 fish to the net and lost 6 more from beat 9 on Friday. Louby Greenish caught an 11lber from Beat 3 and Keith Ogden rounded the week off with a well earned grilse from Beat 2.

The conditions aren't easy but seem to be improving with fish in the pools becoming more active as the temperature falls, a trend forecast to continue.

Tight lines next week.
