Weekly Report

On Monday morning the conditions looked promising with cloud cover and a steady wind. We know there are more fish in the system now, we are seeing them more often but they still won't show as much when it's bright. Father-son team of David and Gregor Sands both landed their first Thurso fish on Beat 9, each employing different tactics. One was using a one inch conehead Alistair in the Rock Pool and the other a Muddler stripped across the run in Upper Tormsdale.

Alastair Rogers landed two fish on Beat 2 from Mill Stream and Upper Fence Pool; he added one more to his tally the next day on Beat 13. John Brownlie opened his account for the week with a 6 lber from Beat 3. He ended his week with 2 more grilse from the Mill Stream, Bt. 2, from where Bill Thompson also landed a fresh 3 lber that day.

The best news of the week was that Jack Donald caught his first ever salmon on Tuesday, a 4 lber from Beat 2, an event we hope he remembers for a long time. Happily, he had his family there to witness the moment. Ian Wilson rounded the week off with a fresh grilse from Beat 2 on Saturday morning in hot, difficult conditions.

Unfortunately, the sun beat down fiercely for the second half of the week and the lack of cloud, plus warm winds, has caused the water temperature to rise. However next week's forecast suggests better fishing conditions - let's hope they're right!
