Weekly Report

The week began with the river at 33 inches on the Halkirk gauge following heavy rain from storm Dave. While it is nice to see such a nice flow through the pools it does make finding those springers just a little more challenging. However, after the unprecedented dry spring of 2025 it is better to have too much water than waiting for it.

still morning on loch more

The first half of the week was blank, which was not entirely unexpected given the higher levels. The second half of the week saw the river more settled and a few fish started to appear.  Local angler Ronnie Plowman had two for his week with  first from beat 9 on Thursday from Jamie Sutherland's weighing 13lb.  His second fish came on Saturday from the corner pool on beat three, this time 10lb covered in sea lice.  Nigel Griffiths used his many years experience fishing the Thurso to land one of 11lb from Upper Tormsdale on beat 9 on Friday, and was very unlucky not to have a second loosing another fish shortly after.

High water old womans

As already mentioned you will not hear any complaints about high water or two much rain. With loch More full it would be nice to see settled water for a week or so as there is no doubt with the pass running most of the season to date quite a number of spring salmon will have moved into the safe sanctuary of Loch More.

Tight lines next week.
