The dry, balmy days and nights of August have continued into September with visiting anglers facing very challenging conditions. Whilst salmon and grilse are being seen in all the usual places their apparent reticence to take can likely be attributed to the low, warm water.
Although the conditions were tough we still seen a few hooked and a couple landed. Tim Hawes caught a 4lb grilse from loch more off the sandy beach and Tim Williams landed a 12-pounder from beat 4 on Friday.
As the salmon's breeding season edges closer with each passing week colder nights should begin to cool the river, we can expect the fish to awake from their lethargy. Should that meet with autumn rains there's no doubt that the catches will improve considerably.
Tight lines next week.
