We began the week with the river running at 19 inches following torrential rain on Sunday. Although the water was quite dirty initially expectations were that once it settled the fishing would improve. And with a final tally of 48  it was not only our best week of the season by some margin, but also our best start to June in nine years. The first half of the week was predominantly older fish relocating that was caught, fresh fish began to appear in greater numbers during the second half of the week with a good spread throughout the system all the way up to beat 13.

Husband and wife team Hilary and Stephen Drury had three between them, largest was 17lb from beat 7. Chris Adcock picked up a brace from beat 13. Our very own John Wildgoose had two as did Ronnie Plowman. Ollie Braithwaite had a good couple of days picking up a few, Gordon Sim and Duncan Laird added their share to the tally, Eddie Bremner and Gerald Davidson picked up a fish a each.

The quality of the fish over the past few weeks have been excellent, many of which have weighed in the teens of pounds, all in outstanding condition. One interesting point that became apparent this week was how small a fly the fish were taking given the levels, size 12s and micro coneheads we would normally use in summer for grilse was doing the business, there was even a few caught on as small as size 14s.

Loch More got a significant lift and is only a few feet short of being full. With heavy showers forecast for early next week prospects for June are looking excellent.
