Weekly Report

We experienced typical early April weather in the far north of Scotland this week, ranging from glorious warm sunny days to gale force winds and heavy rain. While we expected more fish to be caught we ended with one, once again a few were lost which seems to be a recuring theme over the past few weeks.  Dougie Reid's 60-plus years of experience on the Thurso shone through when he caught his first of the season from the Narrows on beat 12, the fresh fish weighed approximately 11-pounds.

Daffodils on beat 4

The river was unsettled for much of the week fluctuating between 14 and 26 inches on the Halkirk gauge thanks to heavy rain most days. Next week looks settled but how high the river will be on Monday after storm Dave passed through on Saturday night remains to be seen, but its better to have to much water than waiting for rain to arrive like we experienced during spring last season.

Tight lines next week.
