Similar to last week the overhead conditions proved to be quite challenging for our anglers. Bright blue skies and air temperatures into the late teens, along with light winds created difficult conditions for tempting salmon. Consequently, many anglers chose to focus their efforts during early mornings and late evenings. Monday and Saturday were the only days that offered decent conditions, and unsurprisingly the only days that produced catches.

Angus Ritchie got of to a great start on Monday with a 10lb sea-liced fish from Upper Suilag on beat 3. Graham Legg landed a one of 8lb from the boat on Beg, Adrian Winchester defied the odds on the often unfancied beat 5 with one from the Trawl pool weighting 10lb. Kevin Hiddlestone acheived his lifelong ambition of landing a spring salmon on Saturday with one from Lower Oughtred's on beat 10.

While it may not have been the most productive week from an angling perspective due to the weather the wildlife and riverbank fauna have flourished over the last couple of weeks. Its a wonderful time of the year to be out on the river. With ospreys overhead, the iconic calls of the curlew, sandmartins and oystercatchers are busy and the brown hare is becoming an increasingly common sight.
Tight lines next week.
