The wait for substantial continues. Although heavy thunderstorms threatened the catchment towards the end of the week we ultimately missed out this time. However, generally cooler weather has meant both air and water temperatures have been below the seasonal average, this has helped a steady trickle of fresh grilse run into the lower beats.

Looking back at this weeks catches it was no surprise to see the lower beats preform best. Ross Macdonald used his extensive knowledge of the Thurso to land three. Gerry Oddie and Matt Colman picked up two each. John Drummond, Dave Fenton and Mike Sturgeon all with one. Finally, Graeme Rawlings caught his first Thurso salmon from beat 2 on Saturday.

Looking ahead, the weather looks set to remain cool and unsettled, hopefully we get some rain in the right place. There is no doubt there is more fish within the river than at any point last season, and with large numbers in the estuary there is still plenty of time for some big catches.
