With rain most days there was a hope that the river would rise but with the ground as dry as it is we only had two minor lifts, one on Monday and the other on Friday night. What it has done has cooled the water temperatures down in comparison to a week ago and fresh grilse have come into the lower beats from the estuary in decent numbers with 12 of the 17 caught being these smaller one-sea winter salmon.
Although Monday was blank Tuesday made up for it with eight fish in the book, the middle of the week was steady and we ended with 5 on Saturday.
Ken Mcgeorge had two on consecutive days including the first from the boat on Loch More this season, Iain Wilson seldom disappoints taking three for his short week, and Gary Hendry had a brace from beat 2. Pete Daniels had four for his week. Malcolm Walder and Chris Sutcliffe had a fish each from Beat 2. Tom Snell had a grilse from beat 3 and Kevin and Karen Cordery also had a fish each from beat 3.
Periods of heavy rain look set to continue throughout the weekend and into next week, a full spate from Loch More would be ideal, but with the cooler weather, large tides and any lift in water levels the expectation would be for more fish to enter the lower beats from the sea.
Tight lines next week.
