Gerston (beat 4)

Weekly Report

The final full week of the season ended with a respectable 83 fish in the book. Storm Agnes moved across the Thurso catchment on Wednesday evening with strong winds a heavy rain lifting levels 22 inches which left much of the river unfishable on Thursday.

It is hard to put a finger on what mood the salmon are in at the moment, when they do switch on tremendous sport can be had, but often when everything seems just right the ignore all our anglers offerings, one thing that will not be helping is an above average air and water temperature for the end of September.

Bobby Bryans and Paul Smith did very well with over twenty between them, Charles Mylcreest had six in two days, Francis Milner carried on from where he left of last week with five, Steve Stranks had a brace from beat six. Dave Carney had four in two days. Regulars from France Jean Louis Siboni, Etienne Garin and Françis Garin shared 13 between them, John Waggot, Phil Richmond, Ken Huggett, Paul Smith and Andy Hind all adding to the weeks total.

We also had a few new anglers this week who enjoyed their first visit to the Thurso, John Currie had two from beat 9, Jack Richards from beat 4, Colin Parkin also had one from beat 9, and Richard Galbraith had three.

With loch More full there is more than enough water to see out the final four days of the season.

Tight lines next week.
