It has been another extremely hard week, with no fish for the first 5 days of the week; as well as the very low river it has been wall to wall sunshine for most of the days, making it extremely difficult. Today the conditions were a bit better in the morning and an early rod picked a couple of fish from beat 2 and lost another.
The river will only drop very slowly now and we are only a half an inch from the lowest since 1971.
The very low water does mean that there are no fish running the river apart from a very few grilse and we now have large numbers of fish building up, not only in the bay but along the coast itself. A good time to see them is an hour after low tide at the harbour in Thurso. It has become quite a site and many people are watching the fish jumping.
It does look like there are some slight changes in the weather with a cooler and cloudier week ahead, but unfortunately no serious rain.
The picture is of loch more, the left side of the loch has dropped away to nothing and looks more like Africa than Scotland.
