A week of two halves, with 7 fish in the first half of the week and 32 in the second, giving us a week’s total of 39 Salmon, our best week of the season.
The first two days of the week gave us some of the worst weather of year, very heavy showers of sleet, snow and hail, with a biting northerly wind, which made fishing difficult and very unpleasant. Wednesday saw the river in spate and no fish were caught.
As the water cleared and dropped over the rest of the week we started seeing a good number of fish running the river. Most of the fishing action was from beat 7 and above, with one rod taking 6 fish on beat 13. The fish have been of excellent quality with a good number in the high teens including one at 19 lbs and two at 18lbs, the rest were in the 9 to 11lb range.
The spate has filled Loch More and this will give us good water for the next few weeks.
At the moment the April total is 82, there may be some late additions, but at 82 this is well over 50% above our 5yr and 10yr averages, all in all an excellent week and an excellent April.
