We have had three very nice fish this week, weighing in at 17, 18 and 21lbs, but I am a little disappointed that it was only three, I would of hoped for a few more. The river was at around 12 inches for most of the week, enough water to let them enter the river, but low enough to stop them running straight through; two of the fish were from the lower beats, 2 and 4. A couple of good fish were lost and fish were seen moving through and so we are certainly seeing fish running the river.
The better weather has meant that we have been getting on with a bit more maintenance, the huts have all had a coat of paint and are ready for the new season.
Although cold, spring is here it has been good to be on the river with the skylarks singing overhead and the rooks down on beat 4, building new nests. The fields around the lower part of the river are full of thousands of geese waiting to move north.
For those fishing next week, Tight lines. Tim Hawes
