At last, our first fish came off the river today (Saturday 2nd March). Congratulations to Eddie Bremner who took the 7lb fish from the Carsgoe Burn pool on beat 3. It is a well deserved fish, Eddie has been out since the start of the season and it is a just reward for effort he has put in.
I would have been surprised if we hadn't taken a fish this week, the conditions were very good, with the river running at around 10 inches for most of the week and a bit of warmth in the air, let us hope the next one is not to far behind!
The weather for next week looks a little less settled and a bit colder, but I don't think it will spoil the fishing.
Driving up to the top of the river this morning it was clear that there were more than fish on the move. The fields driving up to Westerdale were full of grey lag and pink footed geese, all awaiting the right conditions to continue their migration to Iceland and Greenland. In with the geese were large numbers of golden plover, these birds are gathering before they go onto the hill to breed. There is always something to see!
Tight lines to everybody fishing next week
