It has been the best week on the river this season with 23 fish reported so far this week The conditions have suited the Thurso with a good wind blowing, which has helped the slower moving pools. The height of river has also meant that fish have been caught at the top and the bottom of the river. We have seen a number of smaller springers, 6lbs or so, but also have seen some good fish in the high teens, with a lovely 19lb fish taken on Monday.
An interesting catch on Friday was a very large Sea-Trout kelt. The Thurso does have a small run of Sea Trout, but to see a fish that would have weighed something in the high teens , is exceptional.
I was down at the river mouth yesterday and there were a good few fish showing, so as well as the fish running at the moment, I suspect that there are a good few fish waiting for a bit more rain. There does look to be some rain in the forecast on Saturday night Sunday morning, so fingers crossed!
Tight lines to everybody fishing next week.
