REPORT

After such a prolonged drought during the season the big question was if there would be significant numbers of salmon on the redds spawning. After exploring both the main river and upper tributaries it was very good to see healthy numbers of returning adults successfully going about their business and completing one of the most remarkable journeys in natural world.

The Aerial photo below clearly shows then redds directly below Dalemore pool.

FOR ATTENTION OF ALL THURSO ANLERS - PAST AND PRESENT.

An electricity act s36 application has been submitted to the Scottish government to erect a 12 turbine wind farm on the land stretching from Upper Tormsdale pool on Beat 9 up to Dalemore on Beat 10 and then further up the little river.

The developers can be seen on: www.tormsdalewindfarm.co.uk

The planning documents along with representations can be viewed on the Highland council website:  https://www.highland.gov.uk/info/180/planning_applications_warrants_and_certificates/143/planning_permission/4

The scientific adviser to the Caithness District Salmon Fishery Board (CDSFB) has raised serious concerns. The Thurso river is designated as a special area of conservation specifically in regard to Atlantic salmon. The proposed windfarm has the potential to have a seriously negative impact on Atlantic salmon.

The CDSFB will be lodging an objection to the proposed windfarm.

Thurso River Ltd also has serious concerns. These include the potential threat to Atlantic salmon as identified by CDSFB, alongside general loss of amenity, effects on public safety, significant adverse effects on the landscape and disruption from the wind farm access proposals.

Should you wish to make a representation in regard to the proposed Tormsdale wind farm you should:

Email: representations@gov.scot

>  Or send a letter to: Scottish Government, Energy Consents Unit, 4th floor, 5 Atlantic Quay, 150 Broomielaw, Glasgow, G2 8LU

Ensure your own name and address is included on the email. (Anonymous representations are invalid)

Ensure you clearly identify the application to which your correspondence refers. The Tormsdale reference number is: ECU REFERENCE : ECU00003335

> Try to Submit your applications by Monday 29th November if you can (although later objections will still be accepted)
