Weekly Report

Below is the weekly report for Sunday, June 21, 2020

Summer arrived this week with air temperatures exceeding 20'c most days with clear blue skies and light winds, not ideal weather for fishing and with limited fishing pressure only a handful of fish were caught.

The previous week saw the fish pass at loch More running steady for 5 days and the vast majority of our spring run took advantage of this to make their way to the safe sanctuary of loch More.
This week also saw our first  decent run of grilse appearing throughout the system and with loch More as good as full we would expect the numbers to increase over the next few weeks.
We still live in uncertain times and the Current advice from the Scottish Government is that 15th July 2020 is the date to focus on. However the situation remains fluid and subject to further confirmation. Notwithstanding the above, on the basis of present guidance, we expect clients will be permitted to travel to Caithness, stay at the Ulbster Arms and fish the Thurso from this date. Prevailing Social Distancing Rules are likely to determine both the availability of full hotel facilities including evening restaurant dining etc. and also the extent to which ghillies will be operating. Naturally, significant steps have been taken to manage and mitigate any potential COVID-19 risk. The remainder of the 2020 season will be “different” . However, both hotel and river management are confident of providing an enjoyable and safe experience for all guests. It is strongly recommended that clients who currently have a firm reservation to fish post July 15 2020 make contact with the Ulbster Arms Hotel to confirm their likely intentions.
