Well at last there is some cause for optimism after what has been a couple of months with river levels generally around minus 2 or 3 inches.
After some heavy showers last weekend loch more got a lift in water levels, which lifted the river up to around 2 inches for most of the week, whilst not the spate we desperately need it almost felt like it.
While the earlier part of the week it was old residents on the take, small groups of fresh fish finally started to move into the lower beats towards the end of the week.
The hot days of July look like they may well be behind us with cooler fresher days and this has showed up with the water temperature dropping this week to the low 50s compared to the mid to late 60s Fahrenheit in previous weeks, and with the river holding steady and some of the largest tides of the summer I would expect a few more fresh grilse to be encountered next week.
Tight lines to all visiting next week
