Weekly Report

Below is the weekly report for Monday, January 3, 2022

Well, 2021 is now behind us and with it a chance to reset and look forward to a new season that starts next Tuesday( January 11th). The 2021 season was a difficult season with both the continuing presence of Covid-19 and the prolonged drought which lasted from mid-June through to late September but thankfully with a significant rise in river levels the final 10 days of the season gave everyone a taste of what could have been with some decent water during the summer months.

Even during a difficult season there are always positives, continued electo-fishing results are showing the Thurso's juvenile salmon population to be in an extremely healthy state. And the number of returning adults on the spawning redds during November was excellent.

So we move on to 2022 and we are all hoping for a return of some normality beginning with the opening day dinner on the evening of January 10th which had to be cancelled last year due to restrictions. And a wet summer would be great to show what the Thurso can do.

Finally, on behave of the River Thurso team and the staff of the Ulbster Arms we would like to wish everyone a very happy new year and tight lines for the new season.
