Unfortunately the heavy rain that passed over much of Scotland missed the far north.
As mentioned last week light outfits in the form of single handed rods or small light double handers will do for most situations. Flies are again on the small range of the scale with 12s, 14s and 16s and again thinking out of the box may prove fruitful, sunray shadows, small frances and hitches have been tempting fish.
How to approach a pool is often a hot topic between the ghillies and guests visiting the river, and during these periods of lower water levels causing as little disturbance and keeping below the skyline will pay off during the course of a week.
Another thing worth considering is trying the areas of a beat less often fished, grilse will lie in little pockets and glides between pools. Go hunting these little spots and you may get a surprise.
Our resident expert Pat Nicol has a vast range of flies for all conditions if you are needing a few flies for your trip.
