Fish are now arriving in better numbers with liced salmon being caught from most beats.
We had a small rise in water levels over the past week and with more rain forecast over the weekend the prospects for next week looks good.
The average setup will be full floating lines fished of light double handed rods or switch rods if the wind drops. With cooler than average water temperatures fly sizes have generally been larger in the size 8 or 10s dressed hooks or 3/4 inch coneheads although a few have been taken on smaller. The usual patterns have been working such as the Alister, cascade, willie gunn and even one taken on a 6" collie dog. It is all about confidence for each angler as when a fresh springer is in the mood he will take anything thrown in to his window.
Again for those travelling north be aware of the condition of the roads in Caithness and especially from Westerdale to loch More.
Tight lines next week
