Daily river blog 23/01/2019
Winter continues in caithness on the banks of the river Thurso.
Like much of the country it is a very cold start this morning with temperatures in halkirk well below freezing. This cold spell of weather has brought the river's water temperature down significantly compared to this time last week when it was around 42'f (just over 5' celcius) and now we are down to as low as 34'f (1'c).
The river is maintained a consistent level thanks to the few hours of winter sunshine which is melting the snow on higher ground and keeping levels topped up nicely.
Today looks like it is going to be a relatively calm and clear day with long periods of sunshine and light winds
