Avoiding storm Erik
We start the week with the river running 27 inches, thankfully caithness didn't feel the full impact of storm Erik, other than strong winds and periods of heavy rain through Saturday the deluge that was predicted in the forecasts didn't fully impact the Thurso.
Although it has been a cold start this morning with a hard frost and occasional flurrys of snow it does look like some warmer and settled weather is on it's way from midweek onwards.
As with many other rivers across the country, the Thurso has had its problems with ice and grue which impacted fishing effort, even on Friday (8th Febuary) we still had flows of ice in river despite warmer air temperatures. Now the river is running clear at last and rods can make serious efforts at hunting for the first fish of 2019.
